Naruto is a manga series still currently in publication in Japan that is the work of Masashi Kishimoto. The plot revolves a young ninja named Naruto Uzumaki who is in a constant search for recognition in his village. Uzumaki eventually hopes to become a Hokage, which is the highest position that any ninja could hope for. The Naruto series is based on Kishimoto’s own comic series, which was originally published in Akamaru Jump in 1997. From its beginnings as an illustrated series, the franchise gradually grew to include Naruto video games. Today, all Naruto video games enjoy a considerable degree of popularity not only in its native Japan, but all over the world as well. Ask any hard-core gamer around and he or she would probably own a Naruto video game or two.

The manga form of Naruto was first published in 1999, when it appeared in an issue of Sh?nen Jump magazine. There have already been 47 different volumes of the manga, and publication is still currently ongoing. These publications certainly inspired the current crop of Naruto video games characterized by new and ever more inventive versions, of which Naruto Shippuden video games are some of the most popular.

As is often the case with manga series coming from Japan, a television version was soon forthcoming. Naruto was adapted to anime form, and was released to the Japanese and global market on October 3, 2002. Produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex, the series was aired on both TV Tokyo network and Animax. The show proved to be a big hit among a new generation of Naruto fans, and a sequel was born which would later prove to be the inspiration for the highly popular Naruto Shippuden video games. The series is called Naruto: Shippuden, and it has been on the air since the early part of 2007.

There were even more cash cows in the making for the highly successful franchise, and Studio Pierrot was responsible for the development of no less than six more movies for the series. In addition, the studio has developed numerous OVAs or original video animations. The studio is also involved with virtually all Naruto video games, and the merchandise line has greatly expanded to include novels, many more Naruto video games, trading cards, and virtually every other type of merchandise you can imagine.

As popular as Naruto video games and all the other products tied in with the franchise have been all over the world, it is of course in Japan where the franchise has registered the most sales. The manga itself has sold well over 70 million copies in the country alone. Naruto video games are just as popular as the manga series, particularly for a younger generation of audiences that have grown up playing video games. Naruto video games definitely have what it takes to compete with even the most cutting edge video games on the scene, and Naruto Shippuden video games are some of the biggest sellers in this category.
